The Most Instagram-able Spots in Fort Myers

Heading to Fort Myers / Sanibel / Captiva for vacation?

Fantastic! Obviously, beaches always make for great pictures.

But the great thing about the beaches in Southwest Florida, is that they have all kinds of cool vegetation and trees, plus — the water is usually very calm and clear!

I lived in Fort Myers for three years, and being a super-basic millennial, I scoped out the best spots for INSTAGRAM pictures!

LOVER’S KEY

Lover’s Key is a wildlife preserve about 15 minutes past Fort Myers Beach. If you walk to the right of the main entrance, there are all these cool trees — right on the beach!

BONUS: If you go on a weekday during the offseason at sunset — there’s usually only a few people at the entire beach! Also, if you don’t mind walking, you can have the entire beach to yourself if you walk past the pavilions a bit. I used to do a beach run here every Sunday.

BOWMAN’S BEACH / LIGHTHOUSE POINT – SANIBEL

My two favorite beaches in Sanibel are and Lighthouse Point and Bowman’s Beach.

Both are fantastic because they usually have calm and clear water – which looks like paradise in pictures, and also — you don’t have to worry about a wave crashing and knocking you over, ha!

However, these both can get kind of crowded during the busy season. At lighthouse point, walk past the lighthouse and head towards the trees for a deserted island feel!

Also, duh, take a picture in front of the lighthouse!

SLOUGH PRESERVE, FORT MYERS

Ok, this isn’t a beach, but if you want to feel like you’re in the Florida Swamp – here you go. Plus it’s right off of a main road (Six Mile Cypress), so it isn’t that far of a drive from Fort Myers.

DOG BEACH, BONITA SPRINGS

Ok, yes, this beach is for dogs and their owners, but you don’t have to have a dog to go! The biggest bonus — seeing all the dogs! Plus — it’s all shallow water so you can walk around the mangroves on to little islands full of vegetation.

Did all of that candid posing make you hungry? Ha.

Stop by Island Cow in Sanibel for a great lunch or dinner, and don’t miss out on the Funfetti muffins! Other great options – The Mucky Duck in Captiva, or dessert at The Bubble Room.
